For as long as we can remember, humans have expressed themselves through song. New York Stage Originals' latest creation is a contemporary stage show that explores and celebrates some of the many reasons why we sing and the emotional power singing elicits in our lives. Featuring six powerful vocalists in a showcase of vocal style from Pop to Opera and Blues to Musical Theatre who, in a series of staged theatrical scenes, take us on a journey of moments that move us to sing.
A woman who shows up at an audition with water sounds for accompaniment because she can only "Sing in the Shower". A new father attempts to sing his baby back to sleep in "Inverse Lullaby" but ends up riling the baby up instead. A teenage girl fantasizes about being a pop star in "Turn up the Radio." A father annoys his kids as he “Sings Opera” while he makes dinner for his family. In "Lifecycle" echoes of Happy Birthday, and Here Comes the Bride resonate as, on the eve of their daughter’s wedding, a husband and wife reflect on how quickly their daughter has grown up. “Scales to Broadway” tells the story of the trials and tribulations of trying to make it to Broadway as a singer. Culminating in a powerful rendition of "Auld Lang Syne", “SING” celebrates the power of the human voice and the importance of singing in all of our lives.
